An IMPORTANT update on emergency medical treatment! I've had a few people point out the "No Surprises Act" which was passed this year: https://www.cms.gov/newsroom/fact-sheets/no-surprises-understand-your-rights-against-surprise-medical-bills
Now, if you have health insurance, this act will "Ban surprise bills for most emergency services, even if you get them out-of-network and without approval beforehand (prior authorization)." This is super good news, and it means that you shouldn't be afraid of calling 911 in a medical emergency—you'll still have to pay for it (like an in-network procedure), but it won't be completely out of pocket if you go to an out-of-network hospital. The act will also "Require that health care providers and facilities give you an easy-to-understand notice explaining the applicable billing protections…" and though I'm less convinced about the "easy-to-understand" aspect, at the very least it means you SHOULD be notified about this when you receive the bill!

As someone who works in healthcare and has had to deal with headaches with insurance, this video is fairly accurate. And before anyone scrutinies you're doctors or other health care providers, it Is just as confusing and frustrating for us as for our patients.
At this point, I would have to have severed a limb in order to convince me to take an ambulance over a taxi.

My insurance doesn't cover the nearest urgent care, which is literally DOWN THE STREET from me, so instead we always have to drive like 20 minutes 🙂
