Tirzepatide (brand name: Mounjaro) is the newest injectable medication for the treatment of type II diabetes and obesity. Mounjaro was recently approved for diabetes and is awaiting FDA approval for the primary treatment of obesity. Based on the results of the SURMOUNT trial, tirzepatide will likely be the most effective obesity medication EVER. This once per week injection produced an average weight loss of nearly 21% of body weight at 72 months.

In this video, Dr. Christopher McGowan, MD, MSCR, of True You Weight Loss, explains how tirzepatide (Mounjaro) works, common side effects, expectations, and a comparison to other weight loss medications.

I love videos where they are superbly presented and understandably explained. I also like that I can find information that is thought out in better terms that my own doctor would have spent the time to explain to me. Thank you so much.

Bruce Wayne says:

Get to the point jackas*!!!

Loretta Carroll says:

The only reason I disagree about using this as a weight loss drug is does it really change people's behavior around diet and exercise? Is the expectation that you take it forever? How are people maintaining after? I lost 210 lbs with diet and exercise alone. I am now just 42% of my highest body weight. I am maintaining due to keeping up with my changes since my behavior around food and exercise are now habits.

William Wilson says:

The only medicine you need for obesity and obesity related diabetes is food. Eat food in its natural form…don’t eat overly processed food.

These drugs are moneymakers for companies getting rich off ignorant people.

Fascinated By Everything says:

Instead of just blaming the insurance company, maybe we should blame the Pharma cos for charging insurance cos $1000+ a month for the meds in the first place. The insurance company passes that "bad news" to policy holders in the form of hoops and higher premiums….but the root cause is that medicine is so ungodly expensive because of what the Pharma cos charge.

P J says:

Dr. Can you please tell me if this medication causes Cancer? Or if someone with gastroparesis can take it?

Samantha Flores says:

Will a Dr Rx this if you are pre diabetic?

Jeff Laborda says:

Doc, I'd like to try an available weightless drug that's not ridiculously expensive. I see on your website that you list Mounjaro and Wegovy but none of the others (e.g., Ozempic); do you not prescribe those? I'm interested in trying one and need a doctor to evaluate me and possibly prescribe… I see that I can get Ozempic and others from canada pharmacy at a decent price…and they are in stock there. I am hooked on your TikTok videos so naturally went to your practice website.

Insurance companies have a shortsighted view of pretty much anything that’s good for patients. I think this is amazing and I hope that more people who need it can have access and take advantage of these medications.

Rey Valdes says:

I am 60 year old male who’s battled weight issues for the past two decades. Been on Mounjaro for seven weeks and have lost 29 lbs. Starting 7.5 mg on Saturday. I am exercising (cardio) 6 days a week and light weights twice a week. Eating about 1,200 calories daily. Only side effect I have had is minor constipation. Mounjaro has a great appetite suppressant. Excellent medication.

Karmin Miller says:

I recently was on Ozempic and was moved up to a 5mg dose, after 2 doses of the 5mg Ozempic insurance will not cover it. Doctor switched me to Mounjaro at 5mg. My last dose of Ozempic was 6 weeks ago. My question is it ok to go start to 5mg Mounjaro? or Should I go back down to 2.5 mg Mounjaro first? Feed back appreciated

Why do all comments pay attention to weight loss?
No of these do Ab1C reduce? Do all people who comment have not diabetes?
